Effective 31 August 2026. This policy covers the Escape the Rain iPhone app and this website, operated by Isotach Labs. The short version: no accounts, no ads, no third-party analytics, no precise location — and nothing about you is sold or shared for marketing.
The app asks iOS for approximate location only (roughly 1–20 km). Before any request leaves your device, the coordinate is additionally snapped to a grid of about 5 km, so our server only ever sees which grid cell you are in — never a precise position. Location is used for exactly two things: checking the rain where you are, and ranking drier places by drive time. Drive routes are computed on your device by Apple Maps, not on our servers. We do not store a history of your locations.
A search sends the snapped grid cell, your drive-time budget, and your stay window. Requests also carry a random per-install identifier (a UUID created on first launch and kept in your device keychain). It is not derived from your hardware, is not linked to your identity, and exists so free usage can be metered fairly and abuse can be limited. Standard web server logs (including IP addresses) are kept transiently for security and debugging, then discarded.
Saved places, rain alerts, settings, and the free-tier usage meter live on your device and in its iCloud/device backups, not on our servers. Rain alerts are checked by the app itself and delivered as local notifications — there is no push service holding your data.
Forecasts come from Apple Weather (WeatherKit) and the U.S. National Weather Service, fetched by our server for the grid cells and destinations being ranked. Your identity is not part of those requests.
If you buy a subscription, payment is processed entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details. Purchase entitlements are validated using Apple receipt data via RevenueCat, our subscription-management provider, keyed to the same random install identifier — still no account and no personal details.
Tapping a lodging or activity link opens a third-party site, which has its own privacy policy. Some links are affiliate links; what those sites collect once you are there is governed by their policies, not this one.
The app is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
